Notes
a. Note:   Research Note......
After looking at a 1861 Canadian Census and finding Margret A. Wade B. 1857 with a sister Elizabeth Wade B. 1859, both have a Father John Wade and a Mother Deborah Wade of the right age, it was clear we were close to something. But my search for the Wade child who married Joe Jordan who was mentioned in "Vigilante Days, Frontier Justice Along the Niobrara" by Harold Hutton now had another search item. A new found daughter called Margret A. Wade born 1857. A previous 1885 NE census image and index had a Joseph J. Zordan living next to Deborah Wade and her children. This caught my attention that his wife was born and her parents birth location are the same as Deborah Wade's children. At first thought it was Matilda who is missing. Joseph J. Zordan's wife was Marktan. Also a change in 2009, ancestry.com upgraded the NE 1885 census from just a index to a new index with images. A previous image was obtained from Nebraska State Historical was a scratched image making it hard to see. This new image was perfect and the index was corrected to Joseph J. Jordan. My previous search for Jordan produced nothing. But I noticed Joseph Jordan had children Jessie 8, Attie 4, and Herby 2. So I returned to the 1880 census looking for a Jessie Wade age 3. She appeared in Holt Co., NE. with parents of Joseph Jordan and Margetan. They all had the right ages birth locations and living in Paddock & Steel Creek Precinct which was close to Lavinia, NE. Lavinia was the Wade's homestead and was in Keya Paha District of the 1880 Holt Co., NE Census. Margetan is a prefect match for the Margaret A. found in the 1861 Census. Margetan, Born 1857 in the 1880 Census, Markita in 1885 Census born 1857, and Margret A. in the 1861 Census born 1856. Everything matched and they lived next door in 1885 and in 1880 lived about 15 miles apart. Margetan or Markita could be a fast slurred MargetAnn. Say Margret A. quickly marget ann becomes markitan. But it could be just a cute nick name. The name is very close and everything else in the1861 and 1900-1930 Census records match.
My conclusion is the Wade daughter married to Joe Jordan is Margret A. Wade born 1857 in Canada to John Wade born New York and Deborah Wade born in Canada. Previous family memory had Elizabeth as Joe Jordan's wife, but my research found her married in 1881 to Isaac Demmon. Matilda became my choice to be the wife as she was missing in 1885 and Margetan started with a Ma. A new search for Matilda with the new index and images was next. Searching the new 1885 index and images for a Matilda revealed a Matilda Daily living in 1885 in Saratoga, Holt Co., NE, about 6 miles from the Wade homestead at Lavinia. Then I remembered a Matilda Daley in the 1900 Census living next door to Ellis Wade in Boyd County, NE. Ellis and Matilda Daily in 1900 matched birth information. They both listed Iowa, Ireland and Ireland which was wrong but strangely they matched. This new 1885 Census showed Matilda also had a child, that child also matched the 1900 census for Matilda living next door to Ellis. Matilda is found and only Jemima and Albert are missing. The original stories about Kid Wade's bother-in-law indicated he was a horse thief, which could mean in possession of stolen horses. Everyone bought horses and many where stolen. So if you had them and appeared guilty, then you were a horse thief. So we have found Matilda and Margret A. after 4 years of searching in a few hours with the new 1885 Census images.
Lavinia.-- This post office was established in June, 1878, H. Gordon being appointed first Postmaster. The first settlement was made here on the 16th of April, 1877, by J. L. Smith and H. Gordon. Samuel Spear and his son came here December 28, 1878.
Other sources show John Wade born in Bullalo, NY. Buffalo would put John Wade very close to Essa and Huron, Ontario, Canada. Essa is the location Deborah Blackstock is from and Huron is where John and Deborah Wade are found married in the 1861 Census.
