His birth occurred in Pulaski County,Ky.,December8, 1807, the eldest of a family of ten children --seven sonsand three daughters -- all of whom are living. Hisparents, John andSarah (Woodfin) Naylor, were born in Maryland,and North Carolina,respectively, and after their marriage inthe latter State, moved toKentucky. After residing in PulaskiCounty a few years, they came toBedford Co., Tenn., andfollowed farming until the father's deathin1854. From thattime until her death, in 1856, the mother, was aresident ofObion County. At the early age of twenty-one, AlfredNaylorbegan merchandising in Rutherford county, continuing abouttwoyears. He then moved to Fulton County, Ky., where he was engagedinwool carding and farming, about eighteen years, and in 1850came toObion County, Tenn., and located on his present farm of200 acres offine land, near Union City, along the line of theMobile & Ohio R. R.In 1842 he married Sarah Day, and by herbecame the father of twelvechildren, six of whom are stillliving. Mr. Naylor wasan old lineWhig, but of late years hasbeen identified with the NationalGreenback party.
