a. Note:   SPANISH FORT, AL Samuel Riley Woodham - 78, died Wednesday, Oct. 8, 2008. He was a native of Calvert, Al and a longtime resident of the Eastern Shore and grew up in Eight Mile.
  Sam received his B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering from Auburn University where he was a member of Sigma Chi Fraternity. He served his country in the Army Corp of Engineers during the Korean War. Sam worked his entire career for International Paper Company. His work took him and his family to many locations in the Southeast, as well as to Puerto Rico, Canada and New England.
  He was an active member of Saint James Episcopal Church in Fairhope for 25 years. He served on the Daphne Planning Commission for 12 years and was instrumental in the development the Daphne Sign Ordinance, which helped shape the Eastern Shore into the appealing community that it is today.
  Sam is survived by his wife of 56 years, Mary. Survivors also include his daughter Jane Griffin and husband Bill, his son Riley Woodham and wife Jami, his sister Elizabeth Cheeseman, his brother Brannan Woodham, and his four grandchildren, Jordan, Curt, Brannan and Sam.
  The family will receive friends on Saturday, October 11, 2008 at Saint James Episcopal Church in Fairhope, from 10:00 am until 11:00 am. A memorial service will follow at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Saint James Episcopal Church Memorial Fund, 860 North Section Street, Fairhope, AL 36532 or to a charity your choice.
