Mom said Grandma inherited property from her, that Gladys Jackson never married or had children. Angela said her nickname, "Happy" came from happy butt which came from glad ass, her name said slowly. Gladys Brewster Terry, 84, of Midland, met her Savior, Jesus Christ our Lord late Wednesday, May 20, 2009. She was born May 1, 1925 in Spur, Texas to the late Don and Marie Brewster. She grew up in the Littlefield, Texas area. She graduated from Cosmetology school in 1946 and moved to Midland soon after and began her 60 year career as a beautician. She married Raymond Terry January 23, 1949 in Midland, Texas. For many years she owned The Fashion Beauty Shop on Big Springs St. before she moved to The Hairdresser Salon, which she later owned. She retired in 2007 against her will. She loved working with hair and she loved her customers. Earlier this year she had lived at the Red Rose Home and then the last two weeks at the Younger Alzheimer's Care Center along with Hospice care. In her early years in Midland she was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and sang in the choir. She was a member of The First Baptist Church and the James Sunday School Class. Even though Alzheimer's had taken away a lot of her memory, her love for Jesus stayed strong. Gladys had a big heart and always wanted to help others and she kept her sense of humor to the end along with her sweetness and gratitude to her care givers. She is survived by two daughters, Loretta McCarty and husband, Andy Macha of Dallas, Texas, and Angela Nobles and husband, Fred of Midland, Texas. One sister, Iris New of Flora Vista, New Mexico, one brother D. H. Brewster and wife, Ruth of Van Horn, Texas, five grandchildren, Carrie Karnes and husband, Matt of Irving, Texas, Jason Terry and wife, Tara of San Antonio, Texas, Amber Terry Pace and husband, Mike of San Antonio, Texas, Candice Vinson Tollett and husband, Stanley of Corvallis, Oregon and Ryan Vinson of Austin, Texas along with 9 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Gladys was preceded in death by her parents and four siblings, Dorothy Brewster Fox, Ted Brewster, R. L. Brewster and Bessie Brewster Phillips, her husband of 52 years Raymond Terry and their son, William "Bill" Terry. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, May 26, 2009 at 11:00 AM at First Baptist Church Chapel with Dr. Gary Dyer officiating. Interment will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park.
