Note: Born at home, on Helen's birthday. Moved to Shelbyville, VA (population 60 0) when she was 4 weeks old. Moved to Norman, OK when she was 12, Charl es wanted all of his children to get college educations. Grandma sa id it took lots of courage for her parents to make this move. She gradua ted with a Bachelor of Arts degree from OU 1928. She joined the sta ff as a library assistant, then later a circulation librarian until 193 3.
