Notes
a. Note:   Godfather was Gerhard Halbleib (of Altenhof). The founding of Altglashtten occurred in 1609 when Prince-Abbot Johann Friedrich von Schwalbach of Fulda established a glassworks. The glass factory was in operation until the end of the 18th century. Altglashtten lies in the Kleinen Sinn Valley, 568 metres (1,863 feet) above sea level. Originally the people belonged to Mari Himmelfahrt Kirche (Assumption of Mary Church) in Oberbach. Empfngnis Mari Kirche (Immaculate Conception Church) was built 1763-1765 and was rebuilt in 1912. The cemetery was located just outside of town on the road to Neuglashtten. Commencing in the year 1777 the children went to school in Neuglashtten until a school was open in Altglashtten in 1781. Altglashtten was dissolved in 1937/38 to make way for Truppenlager Wildflecken (Camp Wildflecken) and the people relocated. The evacuation date for was 1st April 1938. Ludwig Weigand, a farmer, refused to leave and on 10th May 1938 was forcibly removed. The Hohmann family remained until 25th May 1938 because Maria Hohmann, due to illness, was unable to travel. From 1938-1945 this was part of Truppenlager Wildflecken where Hitler's new army and the Waffen-SS units were trained and after World War II, 1945-1951, it became a Displaced-Persons-Camp. The town was disassembled sometime between 1945 and 1948. From 1951-1994 Camp Wildflecken was a United States Army Base where Elvis Presley was stationed at one time. From 1994-2002 Rhn-Kaserne was a Warfighting Simulation Centre and since 2002 has been an Infantry Training Area. Originally Altglashtten was in the territory of the Abbacy of Fulda, which became the Bishopric of Fulda on 5th October 1752. After the Secularisation in 1803 Altglashtten somewhere along the line was in the Grand Duchy of Wrzburg and by 1810 the Grand Duchy of Frankfort. It became part of Bavaria (Bayern) in 1816 and on the 1st January 1838 this part of Bavaria became the district (or region) of Unterfranken (Lower Franconia). Bavaria became part of Germany in 1871. Altglashtten was in Bezirke Brckenau 1862-1939 and Landkreis Brckenau 1939-1st July 1972 (it was known as Landkreis Bad Brckenau 8th May 1970-1st July 1972); the place that was Altglashtten has been in Landkreis Bad Kissingen since 1st July 1972. In 1910 the population of Altglashtten was 211, in 1925 the population was 213 and in 1933 the population was 216.
Gerhard came to America on the barque Oldenburg, leaving Bremen, Oldenburg, Germany and arriving in Baltimore, Maryland on the 14th December 1860. His place of birth is listed as Glashtten, Baiern, his occupation as Landmann, and his destination was Richmond, Virginia. Tombstone lists year of birth as 1828. Matthias Elm (on the Franken-Liste or Franconian List) found information which lists his birth as 22nd July 1829.
