Note: Uncle Will had joined the U. S. Army sometime before World War II. He was made sergeant several times, but got into fights or drunk and was demoted. He was captured by the Japanese in the Philippines and sent on the death march, but escaped. He kept in touch with a Philippine friend for many years. They fought together with the Philippine Army. There were gorillas then was on corrugators and he was wounded several different times. He was missing in action twice and then turned up in Australia. He was awarded three Purple Hearts.
