Note: Uncle Irvin was not drafted during World War II until the last few years of the war because he had two children. Finished basic training, went directly to Belgium and was captured sealed in box cars in Germany. He was seven days in there without food or water - most died. Uncle Irvin being an old country boy used his belt buckle digging through the wooden sides and finally got a hole large enough for his hand to go through and when it was raining he was able to get water. When it over he weighed less than 100 lbs. It was a long time before my Grandmother or anyone else knew he was captured. He received many medals and a purple heart.
