Note: Werberg has been in existence since at least the 13th century. Werberg Castle is documented as early as 1260 and is known to have been in at least two sieges. It lies partly in the Lachsgrundes Valley, 533 metres (1,748 feet) above sea level. In 1351 Count Hermann of Henneberg made war on Prince-Abbott Heinrich of Fulda and captured Werberg Castle, but it was recaptured a year later. In 1403 it was besieged by Wrzburg, Fulda and Henneberg. The castle was destroyed in 1444 by Prince-Bishop Gottfried IV von Limpurg of Wrzburg. The first school was built in 1799 and was replaced in 1929. The residents of Werberg belonged to Snkten Peter und Paul Kirche in Oberleichtersbach until 1512 and Sankt Matthus Kirche (Saint Matthew's Roman Catholic Church) in Kothen until 1850 when Sankt Kilian Kirche (Saint Kilian's Church) was constructed. Werberg was dissolved in 1937/38 to make way for Truppenlager Wildflecken (Camp Wildflecken) and the people relocated. The evacuation date was 15th April 1938. Wereberg had been primarily an agricultural community. From 1938-1945 this was part of Truppenlager Wildflecken where Hitler's new army and the Waffen-SS units were trained. Werberg was repopulated in 1946, but it was again dissolved in 1966 and the people relocated, when it became part of the United States Army Base, Camp Wildflecken. Werberg was destroyed by explosions in 1973. From 1994-2002 Rhn-Kaserne was a Warfighting Simulation Centre and since 2002 has been an Infantry Training Area. Originally Werberg was in the territory of the Abbacy of Fulda, which became the Bishopric of Fulda on 5th October 1752. After the Secularisation in 1803 Werberg somewhere along the line was in the Grand Duchy of Wrzburg and by 1810 the Grand Duchy of Frankfort. It became part of Bavaria (Bayern) in 1816 and on the 1st January 1838 this part of Bavaria became the district (or region) of Unterfranken (Lower Franconia). Bavaria became part of Germany in 1871. Werberg was in Bezirke Brckenau 1862-1939 and Landkreis Brckenau 1939-1st July 1972 (it was known as Landkreis Bad Brckenau 8th May 1970-1st July 1972); the place that was Altglashtten has been in Landkreis Bad Kissingen since 1st July 1972. In 1910 the population of Werberg was 284, in 1933 & 1938 the population was 264 and in 1946 the population was 356.
