Notes
a. Note:   From the end of the 8th century Herbstadt belonged to the Abbacy of Fulda. From the mid-13th century it was part of the County of Henneberg (from 1245 under the care of Coburg, from 1317 under the office of Heldburg). In 1354 it went to the Arch-abbacy of Wrzburg. From 1500 the place was in the Franconian Imperial District (Frnkischen Reichskreis). After the infamous Secularisation in 1803 it went to Bavaria. On the 1st January 1838 this part of Bavaria became the district of Lower Franconia (Unterfranken). In 1862 it was in Landkreis Knigshofen-im-Grabfeld. Bavaria became part of Germany in 1871. Since 1st May 1973 it has been in Landkreis Rhn-Grabfeld. In 1910 the population of Herbstadt was 401, in 1933 the population was 493 and in 1939 the population was 436.
