  During the Middle Ages Berlichingen was a fief at various times belonging to the Bishopric of W�rzburg and the Electorate of Mainz. Berlichingen was part of the Abbacy of Sch�nthal, 1631-1803 and became part of W�rttemberg in 1803. W�rttemberg became part of Germany in 1815. Berlichingen was in Jagstkreis 1818-1924; it was in Landkreis K�nzelsau 1924-1973; since 1973 it has been in Hohenlohekreis. The states of Baden and W�rttemberg were joined together in 1952. Berlichingen was incorporated into Gemeinde Sch�ntal in 1972. In 1910 the population of Berlichingen was 958, in 1933 the population was 806, in 1939 the population was 751, in 2004 the population was 691 and in 2006 the population was 770.
