a. Note:   Godfather was Heinrich Schulz. Martin & Maria Anna Eck and their family left with the second group of emigrants. They left Rineck on 11th May 1850, and embarked at Mannheim on 13th May 1850, left K�ln (Cologne) by train to Antwerp and from there sailed on the ship 'Roscoe' for New York City on 15th May 1850. Father Mathias Volk, pastor of Sankt Georg Kirche (Saint George's Roman Catholic Church) in Rittersbach, accompanied this group as far as Antwerp. To the emigrants were handed 24 gulden to every head of a household, and to each family member and each independent person was given 10 gulden and left to their own fate.
  In the 1870 City of Philadelphia, Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania census, living with Martin and Adelheid are four children (relationship not known), Catherine, age 16, a tailoress; Mary, age 12; Lena, age 10; and John, age 6; all born in Pennsylvania. In the 1880 census, living with Martin and Adelheid are Catherine, age 26, born in Germany, a tailoress; Lena, age 21, born in New York, a tailoress; and John, age 17, born in Pennsylvania, a labourer. Both parents of all three were born in Germany and all three were listed as `Other' relationship to Martin. Mary was not listed with Martin and Adelheid in 1880. In the 1900 census were John Eck, born October 1863, a teamster; with brother Charles, born September 1871, a shipper; and sisters, Kate, born April 1856, a tailoress; Lena, born October 1859, a tailoress; and Annie, born July 1867. All were listed as born in Pennsylvania, both parents born in Germany. In the 1910 census were Kate Eck, age 56; with sister Lena, age 50; brother John, age 46; sister Annie, age 41; and brother Charles, age 36. All were listed as born in Pennsylvania, both parents born in Germany. In the 1920 census were Charles Eck, age 46; with sisters Catherine, age 65; Lena, age 59; and Annie, age 52. All were listed as born in Pennsylvania, both parents born in Germany.
