Note: Enlisted at age 17 in Co D 5th Ohio Vol Inf, Feb.14,1964. Immediately transferred to the front, where he took an active part in the closing scenes of the Civil War. He was in the engagement at Kenesae Mountain, and received a severe wound under his left shoulder, the ball penetrating the lung, in which it stayed imbedded. After being wounded, he lay in the hospital for 13 months & was mustered out of service in September 1865. Became Postmaster in West Milton, OH Feb. 16,1880.
