Note: The Call Leader: 22 Oct 1931 RETIRED FARMER CALLED REWARD John D. Harting 2021 Main Street Dies at 7:30 o'clock This Morning FUNERAL WILL BE SUNDAY John D. Harting 73, well known retired farmer died at the family home at 2021 East Main Street this morning at 7:30 o'clock of a complication of ailments, after an illness of several months. He was one of twelve children born to Harmon and Margaret Harting. He was born north of Elwood in Duck Creek townhip on May 14, 1858 and all of his life was spent in Elwood and surrounding community. On March 20, 1889 he was united in marriage to Nettie J. Jarrett. Mr. Harting was an active member of the Christian Church. He resided on a farm northeast of the city for several years and was one of the most prominent farmers of the surrounding community. He retired in 1919 and removed to Elwood. Hr. Harting was a good christian man and always had the interest of the community in which he lived at heart and enjoyed an unusual large circle of friends. Besides the widow he is survived by one daughter Mrs. Daniel McDermitt living northeast of the city, one foster daughter Mrs. Clarence House and two sons Raymond D. Harting at home and Kenneth Harting living northeast of Elwood. There are six grandchildren and two foster grandchildren. He leaves one sister Mrs. Fletcher Gritton of Dalgreen, Ill. The body was removed to the Copher and Fesler Funeral Home and prepared for burial. Funeral services will be conducted at the Christian Church Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock by the paster Rev. V. Hayes Miller and burial will be made in the city cemetery.
