a. Note:   Crossed the Oregon Trail in 1845, and settled in Polk Co. Oregon. They were on the famous 'Blue Bucket' train, the one that got lost in the desert in Eastern Oregon. Claracy lost a baby during the trip. John's brother, Stephen Kennedy Waymire, also died during the trip. John owned the first store in Polk Co. His brother, Frederick, was the sheriff of Polk Co. in 1846.
  John Waymire came to Portland, Or. in 1845 and built a sawmill on the banks of the Wilamette river. With that resource providing lumber he built the first wharf to dock sea going ships. This credited him with developing Portland as the major city in Oregon.
  When John started in the winter of 1845 there existed a single log cabin in the vicinity of his sawmill. This place was called the "Clearing". It is now in the very center of downtown Portland at the foot of Washington St. on the west side of the river.
  John Waymire died 23 Aug 1891 while a patient in the state asylum and was buried in the asylum cemetery. On June 23, 1905 a petition was filed in Polk Co, State of Oregon, to have the body of John Waymire removed from its present place of burial and buried by the side of his deceased wife, Helen C. The petition also asked that the proceeds from the sale of the deceased's land be used to pay the expenses of reinterment and the erection of a monument. On September 12 & 15, 1905 the land was sold and finally John Waymire was removed to the Dallas Cemetery. On June 9, 1906 final settlement of the estate was give--Polk Co. Probate Records
