Notes

Note: Enlisted March 5, 1862 (along with his brother Jacob Jr.) in Company C, 109th Pennsylvanian volunteer Infantry. He was seriously injured in the battle of Cedar Mountain, Virginia which was the first major battle in which he fought. He was sent to Rhode Island by the Army to convelence. From there he was discharged fo physical disability on august 9, 1862. He reenlisted on January 30, 1864 in Company K, 111th Infantry. This was the same regiment his brother Jacob was in. There were so many war casualities to the 109th and 111th that they combined them. He served until the end of the war, having been part of Sherman's March to the Sea in Georgia. He was honorably discharged on July 20, 1865 at Washington, D.C.
