a. Note:   N224 Enlisted 06 April 1778, Sergeant, 7th Maryland Regiment, involved in recruiting in 1780. Officer entitled to promotion in his own regiment previous to 01 January 1781. On 02 March 1827, the Treasurer of the Western Shore of Maryland was directed to pay to Benjamin Fickel, of Muskingum County, Ohio, during life, half yearly, the half pay of a lieutenant, for his service during the Revolutionary War.
