a. Note:   N2783 Jennie S. Thomas Jennie S. McPherson Thomas, 89, of Harrisburg, passed away Saturday, March 7, 2009, in the Harrisburg Hospital surrounded by her family. Born in Northumberland on September 28, 1919, she was the daughter of the late Robert Scott and Susan Conway McPherson. Jennie retired in 1983 from the Harrisburg School District where she was secretary to Principal Alice Parks-Elicker in the Steele Elementary School and the former Camp Curtin Early Childhood Center, served as secretary in the district's Middle School, then for the guidance counselors at John Harris High School, and finally as the Secretary of Pupil Services in the Harrisburg School District Administrative Center. She was also a Licensed Practical Nurse and worked as a private duty nurse in the evenings. Jennie was a 1938 graduate of the former Northumberland High School, and completed her nursing studies from the Harrisburg Hospital. She was a very active member in the American Business Women's Association serving as a mentor to many women and having been a charter member, Past President and Historian of the Rockville Bridge Chapter, and Past President of the Harris Towne Chapter, both of Harrisburg. Jennie was a member of the Central Pennsylvania Doll Collectors, and the Pennsylvania Association of School Retirees. She was a volunteer with the Central Pennsylvania Chapter of the Arthritis Foundation. Jennie was a former member of the Epworth United Methodist Church, Harrisburg. She enjoyed scrapbooking, knitting, and doing arts and crafts. Besides spending time with her family, friends and her beloved cats Baby and Blackie, the next thing Jennie enjoyed most was driving her car. Jennie was preceded in death by her husband, Carl S. Thomas, on May 19, 1964; two brothers, James McPherson and Bowman McPherson; and one sister, Harriett McPherson Cathers. She is survived by two sons, Lowell S. Thomas husband of Johanna of New Boston, NH, and R. Scott Thomas husband of Chris of Spring Grove; five grandchildren, Tiffany Thomas of Slidell, LA, Carl M. Thomas of Marrero, LA, Priscilla LeGro wife of Ken of Henecker, NH, Margaret Gonzalez wife of Milton of Waterboro, ME, and Courtney Ayers of Dallastown; and seven great grandchildren, Dalton Thomas and Destiny Thomas of Slidell, LA, Milton Gonzalez and Aleena Gonzalez both of Waterboro, ME, and Carley Ayers, Camryn Ayers and Cayden Ayers all of Dallastown. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, March 11, at 4:00 PM in the Trefz & Bowser Funeral Home, Inc., 114 West Main Street, Hummelstown. Inurnment will be in the Paxtang Cemetery at the convenience of the family. Friends will be received for a viewing in the funeral home Wednesday, from 2:00 PM until time of the services.
