Notes
a. Note:   N2595 Named for her grandmother, Sophia Kline.
The Cramers were most likely living in Union County, Pennsylvania before they moved to Castalia, Ohio, probably between 1830 and 1834. In a biographical sketch by one of Sophia's grandchildren, it notes that it was on this journey that Sophia met her future husband at a hotel where the family stayed. As the story is told, it was love at first sight.
Sophia and Pettis N. Smart were married April 15, 1834 in Bloomingville, Ohio, by Daniel Wellcox, Preacher in the Methodist E. (Episcopal?) Church. They had six children: Sarah, Mary Camelia (Cornelia), Aaron, Elizabeth, Martha, and Lafayette.
The 1850 and 1860 Censuses show them living in rural Sandusky Co., Ohio. A biographical sketch of son, Aaron, notes that they moved to Sandusky Co. in 1846 and to Fremont around 1865. They then lived in St. Charles, Michigan but a short time when Pettis died. As a widow, Sophia lived with her daughter, Elizabeth Leary, again in Sandusky Co., Ohio.
Oby Bonawit, a great-grandson, recorded that Sophia was buried at Chestnut Grove Cemetery in "the Leary plot." A visit to the cemetery did not reveal a marker or the exact location.
The biographical sketch notes that she was a disciple of the Methodist Church.
