Notes
a. Note:   N150 Lawrenceís will was dated March 15, 1747. It was signed with the initial "L" and witnessed by Peter Seitz, John Gunckoll, and Richard Ryan. After providing for his widow and his two sisters, Barbara and Margaret, he left the bulk of his estate to his "well beloved Daughter Barbara when she became eighteen." Brother Mathias and John Hickman were named as his executors of his estate.
Lawrence must have died within a few days after making his will. For on the 21st March, Robert Smith and Daniel Ferree took an inventory of all of his goods. Inventory included some interesting items such as "4 Bee Hives, 3 Dutch Books, a gun and hunting pouch, and two benches in the store room."
Anna Barbara Slaymaker, only child of Lawrence was born July 31, 1746 and upon death of her father, her grandfather Mathias Slaymaker (the original Mathias) was appointed her guardian by the Orphanís Court held at Lancaster on March 6, 1749. Mathias filed a petition to the Court on December 4, 1752 stating that he put the said Barbara inn the care of her mother and step-father, one Jacob Fontz, on condition they would "behave in a kind and tender way and manner," but, that at times, "they used her very ill, especially Fontz, which said Barbara frequently complained to her Grandfather."
So Mathias asked the court to order that Barbara be taken from them and put under his care, offering to raise and educate her without any charge. Court records remain silent on the outcome of the petition. In any case, it is known that Barbara did grow up, married and bore twelve children.
Barbara married George Lefever, the son of the famous rifle maker, Philip LeFever, and his grandfather was Isaac LeFever married to Catherine Ferree, daughter of Madam Ferree.
