  James Scott was born at Mooresburg, PA., September 23, 1823; he attended the public schools of Mooresburg and Point Township, where he secured a limited education. He was a shoemaker by trade, but engaged in the mercantile business at Northumberland for many years. He served in several borough offices many years ago.
  He was initiated in Charity Lodge, No, 144, of Lewisburg, PA., in 1856, and withdrew to become a charter member of Eureka Lodge, No. 404, of Northumberland. He was the first Treasurer, serving three years, Junior Warden, 1872, Senior Warden, 1873, worshipful Master, 1874.
  He died September 4, 1896.
