Earliest Records of Absolom Stinchcomb in Elbert Co.: 1) Head-right for 25 acres granted 13 Sept. 1791. 2) Participant in 1795 election for Delegate to Constitutional Convention.
Absolom is listed in "Justices of the Peace - Elbert Co. - 1790 to 1805".
Stinchcomb Methodist Church was organized in 1794 when M. Wood granted to Absolom Stinchcomb, John Katswood and John Ham, the privilege of erecting a meetinghouse on his property on the waters of Dove Creek in Elbert County. This church was still in existance in 1994 and having weekly services. The church (and cemetery) are located on a country road off of Route 17 a few miles northwest of the county seat of Elberton. I also find, in the "History of Elbert Co." by Macintosh, on page 91, that Absolom Stinchcomb was named among the trustees of the Broad River Circuit-Methodist Episcopal Church, who purchased land in the town of Elberton on 18 October 1815 for a church.

Above records confirm that Phillip Penn was the father of Mary Penn Stinchcomb and that the Absolom and Mary Stinchcomb found in Elbert Co., Ga. are also the Absolom and Mary Penn Stinchcomb in Amherst Co., Va.
