a. Note:   , a day laborer and Civil War veteran, and Sarah Ann Bitzer. She had two siblings;; Robert Edward, and Mary Ellen. As a young girl , her grandmother, the widow Susan Bitzer, lived with the family. By the age of 14, the family moved to Franklin Twp. in Snyder Co., PA . next to his father Frederick and Uncle John Erb.
  Before 1870, she married John Millhoff, son of John Millhoff and Cathe rine Schweitzford. John M Millhoff and Susan Erb had the following children; Robert Edward, William Albert, Sarah Ellen, Mary Elizabeth , Minnie and Louisa. Husband John died in 1879 before the birth of his twin daughters, Minnie and Louisa. When she was 41, she married C onrad L Springer, son of Jacob S Springer and Rebecca Strouss, on 25 Dec 1887 in Snyder County, PA. Conrad L Springer and Susan Erb ha d one daughter Edna Erb Springer born on December 16, 1891 in Middleburg, Snyder, PA.
  Conrad died of consumption, aged 38, in 1898 leaving Susan with littl e choice but to work outside the home. Daughter Edna, age 8, was sent to live with her older sister Sarah Ell en and her husband William Duck in East Buffalo, Union, PA. Susan first worked as a servant in the Marks hous ehold, owners of a local whiskey distillery and latter at the Houtz family, owners of a grist and saw mill.
  In her later years, the widow Springer moved in with her daughter Sar a Ellen, where she had sent Edna to live years earlier. Now it was Edna's daughter, Bertha Zimmerman that was staying with he r Aunt Sara and Uncle William which Edna worked as a household servant . Susan did not want to be buried in Middleburg cemetery next to Conra d Springer because she was afraid they would widen the road someday and they would be run-over. This worried her so instead she was burie d at Lewisburg with her daughter and son-in-law William and Ella Duck. Susan Erb , age 79, died of chronic mitral vascular insufficiency on J anuary 19, 1926, in East Buffalo, Union, PA.
