  Lee County, to Wit We William Heiskell(1788-1871) and James Britain justices of the peace in the County aforesaid in the state of Virginia as hereby certify that Michale Rowland and Elizabeth Rowland Parties to the Certain Deed bearing date on the 25th day of November in the year 1820 ????? are next personally appeared before win our county aforesaid and acknowleded the same to be their act and deed and desired us to ??   I know all men by these presents that we Michael Rowland and Elizabeth Rowland of the County of Lee and State of Virginia fro and in consideration of the natural love and affection which we bear that our daughter Janney Literal of the County and state aforesaid have given and granted in by these present do give and grant unto the said Jenny Literal on negro (female) Child named Charlotte and her increase for and during the natural life of said daughter Jenny and at the death the said Negro Child Charlotte and her increase is hereby given and granted to such child at child as our said DAUGHTER Jenny may then have their hiers executors administrators so assigns to have and to hold the said negro child Charlotte and her increase unto her the said Jenny Literal for and during her natural life ant at her Desease to such child or children as she may then have their heirs executors administrators or assignes forever and the said Michael and Elizabeth Rowland their Heirs executors and administrators and of all and every person claiming under through or by them shall and will forever warrant and defend by these present in ???? whereof we have hereunto set our hads ad affixed our seals this 25th day of November in the year of our lord one thousand eight hundred and twenty.
