Note: Obituary "Sarah Rebecca Simon was born in Pottawatomie County, Kansas, Dec. 28, 1894, to Frederick H. and Elva B. Simon. She passed away Feb. 21, 1985 at the Sheridan County Hospital. She had a stroke in July 1983 and had been in the long-term care unit since August 1983 until the last few days. Sarah came to Sheidan County, Kansas, with her parents when she was 10 years old, and had spent the rest of her life here. Sarah grew up on a farm in East Saline Township, Sheridan Co., Kansas. When a young girl she united with the Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church, and was still a member. She graduated from Sheridan County High School with the Class of 1918. Sarah taught school for two years, and was always interested in community advancement. She was a 35-year member of the American Legion Auxillary. July 19, 1919 she was united in marriage to Willie W. Brown. To this union three sons and one daughter were born. Preceding her in death were her husband, Willie, who died April 20, 1978; her parents; five brothers; two sisters; a son-in-law; one grandchild; and two great-grandchildren. Survivors are her children: Orville and wife, Elaine of Afton, Okla; Glen and wife, Mollie, Hoxie, Ks.; Elbert and wife Leona, Kansas City; Maxine Michaelis and husband, Clarence, Wakeeny, Ks. She is survived by 14 grandchildren, and 21 great grandchildren; two sisters, Minne Carder and husband, Lonnie, Hoxie, Ks.; Edith Weaver and husband, Jay, McDonald, Ks.; four sisters-in-law: Nella Simon, Studley, Ks.; Vioet Simon, Loveland, Co.; Mable Simon, Albany, Or.; and Stella Sumner and husband Roy, Hoxie, Ks.; a brother-in-law Dale Clark, Saline, Ks. After leaving the farm, Sarah and Willie operated a cafe in Hoxie, Ks for many years. They are still remembered for the huge servings of food given to their customers. Sarah was always busy with her hands cooking and sewing. She made a quilt for every one of her children and all the grandchildren and great grandchildren. Sarah was kind and helpful to all she met. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, Feb 25, in the Church of Christ, Hoxie, Ks with Darrell Foltz officiating; burial was in the Hoxie Cemetery."
