Note:   John became a naturalized citizen in Columbiana County on 20 August 1840.
  In the 1860 Stark County, Ohio Census, John and Mary and their children reside in Washington Township with Sandy in Columbiana County being their post office. John is a farmer with a Personal Estate Value of $375.00. The family's neigbors above them are Joseph and Anna Wallace and family whose niece, Isadore Wallace, would eventually marry John and Mary's son Emmanuel.
  In the 1870 Columbiana County, Ohio Census, John and Mary and their children, Jane, Daniel, Jesse, Emanuel, Jacob, Sally, Susan, and Frank reside at Homeworth in Knox Township. John is a farmer.
  John and his wife, Mary, and their family resided in Knox Township, Columbiana County on the Stark-Columbiana Counties line. John was a farmer. He and his wife joined the Middle Sandy Presbyterian Church in Homeworth, Columbiana County on 25 September 1883.
  In the 1880 Columbiana County, Ohio Census, John and his wife and their unmarried children, Daniel, Emanuel, Susan, and William, reside in Knox Township. John is a farmer. The record states that both of his parents were also born in Wirtenburg, Germany.
  According to Barth's History of Columbiana County (1926), in which a sketch was included about John's grandson, Palmer Warren Freshley, Palmer is the son of Jesse Freshley who was a child of (page 787), "...John and Mary (Miller) Freshley...The Freshley family are of German descent. They have alwasy bee interested in genearl afarming and are among the largest land owners of this section."
  According to his obituary in the Alliance newspaper, shortly after noon time on 23 June 1897, some of John's livestock had gotten into the cornfield and he went to drive them out. When he didn't return, the family went to look for him and found him lying dead in the field.
