Note:   The informant for Sylvia's death certificate was her sister, Oma (Martin) Beagle. The record names Sylvia's widow as "Albert Howard" and her parents as "Charles Martin" and "Delilah Hupp". According to the record, Sylvia had suffered from hypertension since 1924 but died from "surgical shock" and "uterine carcinoma" the day after undergoing a hysterectomy at Marietta Osteopathic Hospital.
  Sylvia's obituary in the 14 April 1939 Athens Messenger (Athens, Athens County, Ohio) is as follows:
  "Nelsonville - Mrs. Sylvia Howard, age 49, died this morning at the Marietta Hospital where she had been taken suddenly. She is survived by her husband Albert and 5 children, Mrs. Robert Smith, Nelsonville; Mrs. Ruth Grey, Buchtel; Mrs. Grace Whitely, Lancaster; Laurence, Richmond, Va.; Max and Charles at home; one sister, Mrs. Oma Beagle and 2 brothers Osley [sic] and Claude [sic] Martin and 2 grandchildren. No funeral arrangements have been made."
