Notes
a. Note:   H1880
Note:   According to the Joyce Family History, Sarah lived with her mother untilher mother's death in 1873. At that time, she went to St. Vincente Hospital in Cleveland, Ohio with the intentions of becoming a nun. She found that because of her age at that time, she was not eligible to join the convent. However, she went to work at the hospital and "...was a faithful and efficient nurse for about twenty years." After she left the hospital, she went to live with her cousin on her mother's side, George McGuigan, in Youngstown, Ohio, at whose home she died from pneumonia after only being ill a few hours.
Sarah was said to have been a great reader who retained most of what she read or heard. In the 1860 Carroll County, Ohio Census, Sarah was employed as a milner. She never married.
