Note: Effie was baptized at the Middleport Church of Christ 17 February 1956. Effie lived in Middleport, Meigs County, Ohio from 1925 until 1957 when she moved to Beloit, Mahoning County, Ohio. In 1958, she moved to Alliance, Stark County, Ohio where she resided the rest of her life. In 1959, her grandchildren, Bob and Patricia Martin, came to live with her. Effie belonged to and was very active in the Lexington Grange in Alliance, Ohio. She was a fine cook and made stuffed animals from scratch. In the fall of 1973, Effie fell from a step-ladder resulting in a very bad bruise on her leg. Effie also suffered from arteriosclerosis and diabetes at that time. As a result, a blood clot formed, and her leg had to be amputated above the knee. Shortly afterward she suffered a fatal heart attack while recovering at home. Effie's obituary in a Dec 1973 issue of The Alliance Review (Alliance, Stark County, Ohio) is as follows: "Mrs. Effie L. Eakins, 64, of 743 E. Garwood Ave., was pronounced dead on arrival Tuesday at 3:30 p.m. at Alliance City Hospital. She had been ill two months. Mrs. Eakins moved to Alliance from Middleport in 1957. She was born Oct. 18, 1909 in Meigs County. She was a member of the Lexington Grange and Stark County Pomona Grange. Survivors include her husband, Chalmer; two daughters, Mrs. Leona Martin of Athens and Mrs. Betty Wills of Pomeroy; a son, Thomas Eblen, of Washington, Pa.; two brothers, Delmer and HOmer Logan, both of Columbus; a sister, Mrs. Robert (Mary) Leverich of Gulsport, Fla.; four grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. Funeral services will be held Friday at 1:30 p.m at the Cassady and Turkle Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Highland Memorial Park. Friends may call at the funeral home Thursday from 7-9 p.m."
