Note: Ed and his sister, Edna, are twins. He was 5'5 1/2" tall and had gray eyes. Ed served in the U.S. Army from 1945 - 1948, attaining the rank of sergeant. Ed died of cancer. Ed's obituary in a February 1994 issue of The Daily Sentinel (Pomeroy, Meigs County, Ohio) contains the following: "Edward Martin, 66, of Salem Street, Rutland, died Tuesday Feb. 22, 1994 at his home following an extended illness. Born June 11, 1927 at The Plains, son of the late John Edward and Mary Francis (sic) Blankenship Martin, he was mayor of Rutland and retired from Kaiser Aluminum. He was also a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and a member of the Middleport American Legion Post 128. He is survived by his wife, Verna Polly Gibbs Martin of Rutland; son, Joseph Martin of North Carolina; sons and daughters-in-law, Richard and Gwen Martin of Middleport, Jeffrey and Luette Martin of Racine; daughter and son-in-law, Sherly [sic] and Lesley Gibbs of Pomeroy; stepsons, Samuel Gibbs of Pomeroy, and Kevin Gibbs of Columbus; stepdaughter and husband, Connie and Ralph Bales of Rutland; sister, Sylvia Martin-George of Galena; Edna Mae Martin of Middleport; and Janice Roush of Chesapeake; sisters and brothers-in-law, Louise and Thomas Mitchell of Coral Springs, Fla., Carolyn and Richard Roummel [sic] of Council Bluffs, Iowa, Connie and Carrol DeVore of Crown City; brothers and sisters-in-law, Albert and Eileen Martin of Chester, Osby and Mary Martin of Middleport; sister-in-law, Edna Martin of Beaver; 12 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Anna Mae Morris Martin; brothers, Ralph, Robert, Theron, Vinson and Herbert Martin; and sister, Jaret Werry and Marilyn Roush...
