Notes
a. Note:   WILLIAM REYNOLDS was born Aug 31, 1827 in Indiana or Kentucky and died Mar 28, 1873 in Daviess Co., IN near Odon. He was noted in Judy McFadden's Reynolds family as mean, and a sot. While possibly drunk, he had fallen from a wagon and was caught under the wheels and died from injuries, according to oral information passed down to Judy McFadden. He married Martha Ann "Patsy" M. Hackler on Oct 3, 1849 in Lawrence Co., IN (Indiana State Library Marriage Records - Genealogy Div.) Martha was born January 10, 1836 and died April 4, 1860. Supposely, after Martha died, William married her sister Almeda Jane Hackler who was born April 17, 1830 and died June 8, 1908.
From the LAWRENCE COUNTY, INDIANA MARRIAGES 1818-1886 by James Goff: HACKLER, MARTHA ANN & REYNOLDS, WILLIAM Oct 3, 1849 Book C, page 211
In the following census, both brothers say that they were born in IN. Could this be true or were they really born in KY?: From the 1850 Federal Census of Lawrence Co., IN, Indian Creek Township, dated August 28, 1850: GABRIEL REYNOLDS, age 26, male, occupation Farmer, born in IN. ELIZABETH, wife, age 23, female, born in KY. JULIANN, age 5, female. MARTHA J., age 2, female. WILLIAM H., age 1, male. Listed underneath Gabriel, is possibly his younger brother, WILLIAM REYNOLDS, age 22, male, occupation is Farmer, also born in IN. PATSY, wife, age 14, female.

From the 1860 Federal Census of Lawrence Co., IN, Indian Creek Township: WILLIAM REYNOLDS, age 30, male, Farmer, real estate value $600, personal value $500, born in IN. ALMEDA, age 28, female, born in IN. GABE, age 7, male NANCY J., age 8, female JACKSON, age 6, male MARY E., age 4, female A. H., age abt. 1/2 yr.
Indiana State Library - Gen. Div. Marriage Records, Lawrence Co., show a William Reynolds married Martha M. Hackler on Oct 3, 1849. Could this be "Patsy M." that appears on the 1850 Lawrence Co. Census? Could the two Reynolds brothers have married two Hackler sisters? More than likely. - M.M
From the letter of Donald C. Reynolds: "I do remember being told that one of Gabriel's brothers lost a leg in the Civil War. (He came back and continued to farm.)" (This might be the brother William Reynolds who lived right next to Gabriel in 1850 or a Thomas Reynolds who lived next to Gabriel in 1880 according to census records, but I am unsure. One of these men could very well have been a cousin. What I have found is a William K. Reynolds of Lawrence Co. IN, that enlisted as a Corporal on Sept 12, 1861 for Company D, 27th Infantry Regiment, IN. He received a DISABILITY DISCHARGE, from the same Company, on June 8, 1862. This may not be him though - M. M.): Reynolds, William K Bedford, 24, 5-5, Millright Discharged Williamsport Maryland 6-8-62 for rheumatism. Later service 4th Indiana Cavalry. Mustered out Nashville Tennessee 7-22-65. Died 4-17-1903, buried Eureka Indiana New Union Christian Cemetery.
From the email of Judy McFadden: My Wm. Reynolds is noted in the Reynolds family as mean, and a sot...falling off a wagon while drunk and landing under the wheels, killing him. My gr.gr.grmother was separated or div. from him at the time of his death. This is the same that lived in NE. along with (wasn't there an Abraham??) Gabriel and Thomas. To be noted.. of all the ch. born to these guys..they never named their ch. after the "we think" brothers. All of them had money for land dealings and alot of them. Gabriel eventually lost his and I think Wm. just handed his over to wife.( a sister to his first wife) So, I think they came here after the death of a father and receiving their inheritance. With the burning of the Hart Co. Ky. records, I couldn't verify the Horse Cave conneciton. What I have on William: William (some say Lafayette-but have never found this on a record for him) Reynolds was born 31 August 1827 in Ky. and died 28 March 1873 in Dav. Co. In. near Odon after falling from a wagon and under the wheels. This is oral family info. I haven't located an accounting of it. He married 03 October 1849 in Lawr. co. In. to Martha Ann Hackler born 10 January 1836 and died 04 April, 1860. To them was born Francis J., Nancy J., Jackson, mary E. (my gr.grmother), Jacob. There is also a possiblity that Jacob is alka A. H..or A. W. This one might put an Abraham back into the linage. One researcher believed there is a Gabriel here, but I think it is Gabriel Sr.'s son. (This is not the case - M.M.) After Martha died, William married her sister Almeda Jane Hackler born 17 April 1830 and died 08 June 1908. They had Wm Marion, James R., Patsy Mahala, Elvira (aka Eliza Clementine), Geo Washington. Almeda is listed as being buried in Chope Cemetery, no address, but I can't locate it. I need to contact the local Gen. Soc. and I'm sure they can help. I have a complete printout of all Dav. Cem. this one isn't listed. I haven't located Williams, Martha's, Almeda's, nor James' graves...all known to have died in Dav. Co. In. Are Gabriel and Wm. brothers? I think they are..with marriages of sisters, living near each other etc...appear in Indiana abt. same time etc. BUT NO PROOF! Cousins or half brothers might do the same. Spoiled that one didn't I? We also have the info on William that has descrepencies, either because we have two mixed together, or he was such a "stinker". As I stated in the past, I don't think our Wm. was Wm. Lafatette. The other researcher I have worked with...says yes, his name is Lafayette. This name never is reflected in any other known related Reynolds! Nor have I obtained any paper trail using this name. I think this started when someone located a grave in Dav. Co. on Wm. L. Reynolds..Civil War Vet....and this isn't his grave per the story from the Plainville Reynolds...However, I had never heard the story about our Wm. Reynolds losing a leg. (This is what Donald C. Reynolds told me - M. M.) So, things are still out there. - Judy
