Note: e lead, and some died. Lewis was put ashore on a south sea island, later going to a hospital in Chile. When homeward bound, he became ill and was put ashore. He later returned to Vermont, but was never able to do hard work as the result of his illness. He kept a store at the outlet of the lake and was postmaster for 40 yrs from 1857
