Note: ter and Paul High School where he graduated around 1929. Mike's sister, Ernestine related how her brother Mike and his cousin, Leonard Benkert, would ride their bicycles to and from Saginaw every day in the Fall and Spring to attend classes. Whenever the weather would turn nasty and make the dirt roads impassable, they would put their bikes on the train and get off at the old train station in Swan Creek and pedal home from there. When winter set in, Mike and Leonard would board in Saginaw with their cousins, Joe and Emma Kretz, while attending classes at St. Pete's. On weekends they would return home to work the farms, returning to the Kretz' house on Monday. In the late 1920's, Mike's father purchased a Ford automobile and this provided transportation from the farm to Saginaw and back again. Mike was a farmer and a member of the Saginaw Farm Bureau.
