Notes
a. Note:   h. Efforts to find their immigration on passenger lists have failed although a Josef Benkert, age 14, immigrated to Baltimore on the ship 'America' arriving on 7 June 1887. It is not known if this is the son of George and Eleonora, however, the 1900 census shows Joseph immigrating in 1886. The 1890-91 Saginaw Directory lists George Benkert boarding with a Louis Waldbauer on Brockway near Woodbridge and working as a gardener. The same directory also lists Joseph Benkert, John Gardner and Boniface Gardner residing at 706 N. Granger. This was the residence of John and Teckla Schuch. Teckla was a sister of Eleonora. The 1900 U.S. census shows that George immigrated in 1888 as family tradition has it. It also shows the George Benkert family had left their farm in Spaulding Township and were residing in James Township. Besides George and Eleonora, the census shows Karl, Franz, Leo and Theresia also residing at this location. Yet, a review of the passenger arrivals in Baltimore, Maryland for 1893 show that George was indeed listed as a passenger with the rest of the family when they left Bavaria in 1893.
Note:   It is stated that George immigrated to America in 1888 with his son Josep
b. Note:   ith his wife and the balance of children who had not already arrived in America.
Note:   Georg arrived at the Port of Baltimore 6 June 1893 onboard the 'Weimar' w
