a. Note:   lahan and Alfonsis Holahan. Nick attended Swan Creek School for grades 1-8, SS Peter and Paul High School for the ninth grade, and then Arthur Hill Tech, graduating in 1939. Nick recalled that after the Swan Creek school building was destroyed by fire, classes were held in the General Store in Swan Creek while the new school building was being completed. Classes were held in the upstairs while it was business as usual in the store below. Nick worked with his father on the farm after completing high school. Nick told how he used to travel all over Michigan selling potatoes that were grown on the farm. In June 1945, Nick was drafted into the U.S. Army, going through basic training at Ft. Lewis, Washington before being stationed in Germany. While he was in Germany, Nick was able to visit the house where is father, Michael, was born and lived until emmigrating to America. Bernadine and Nick met at a dance at the Golden Glow Ballroom in Swan Creek Township. They were introduced by Bernadine's brother Joe who knew Nick. After their marriage they honeymooned at Niagara Falls. They then settled on the family dairy farm in Swan Creek, eventually building up an excellent dairy herd. Their son Lawrence currently operates the farm. Nick was a member of SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, the Swan Creek Planning and Zoning Board, was a member of the Farm Bureau and also the Agriculture Stabilization Commission.
