Note: mberg, 27 January 1878. He was born at 6:00 p.m. and baptized at 3:00 the following afternoon. His godparents were Thomas Lohmann and his wife, Victoria. Dick came to America as a boy and at the age of 14 years he entered the Reider printshop as an apprentice. Ten years later he became a partner of Valentine Boos in publication of the 'Saginaw Journal', a German language weekly in Saginaw. Later he worked in the Seemann & Peters shop, and in 1918 joined the composing room staff of 'The Saginaw News-Courier', predecessor of 'The Saginaw News'. Dick was one of the genuine old-timer's of the printer's art in Saginaw when he laid aside composing stick and line-guage on 29 April 1944 to list himself on the retirement rolls of the International Typographical Union, of which he had been a member for 48 years. At the time of his retirement, Dick had been 52 years in the printing business, in a range running from 'devil' in the F&C Reider Co. job shop in the early 1890's to co-publisher of a German language weekly, the 'Saginaw Journal', and on to journeyman in job and newspaper shops. He was an all-round printer, equaly skilled on typesetting machine and on 'floor' duty-which means either news makeup or assembly of display advertising. In 1940 he was a soda clerk at a drug store. In retirement, Dick devoted himself to his family, his home and lawn, his beloved collection of pipes and catching up on his fishing.
Note: Richard (Dick) was baptized in St. Remigius Katholisch, Dahenfeld, Wrtte
