Notes
a. Note:   "Iron Ore" a weekly newspaper, Ishpeming, MI, April 1917 (Obadiah was in Carbondale, KS on Apr. 2, 1917 attend his cousin, James Tregemba's, funeral. Copied from "Our Ancestors" by Gertrude Uren Sherry) Captain Obadiah Tregembo a well known Ishpeming mining man, died Monday morning at Carbondale, Kansas, where he had gone from Eveleth, Minnesota, to attend the funeral of a relative. He was taken suddenly ill with appendicitis, peritonitis set in, causing his death. The news of Captain Tregembo's death came as a distinct shock to his relatives and friends here, as it was not known that he was ill. He was enjoying his usual good health when he left Eveleth last week. For a number of years Captain Tregembo was in charge of the underground work at the Lake Angeline Mine here, holding that position until the mine was closed down about two years ago. He remained in Ishpeming until just before the first of the year, when he left for Eveleth, to take a place with one of the mining companies operating there. He was well known in the Lake Angeline location, where he resided for many years, and he was highly respected by all the men who had ever worked under his direction. Captain Tregembo was a candidate for the office of mine inspector at the primary last August. This was the only time he was ever in politics. He was fifty seven years of age and is survived by a wife and daughter in England, a sister who lives here and his father, Captain William Tregembo, also of Ishpeming. He was a member of the Ishpeming Masonic Loge, the Sons of St. George and the Foresters. The body was received here yesterday and the Masons will have charge of the funeral which will take place this afternoon with church services. ------------------------ (newspaper unknown, prob. from Ishpeming, MI; Obadiah Tregembo his cousin's, James Tregemba's, funeral. This obit says Obadiah died in Kansas City, MO, but his family and second obit has Carbondale, KS as place of death.)
OBADIAH TREGEMBO Captain Obadiah Tregembo, one of Ishpeming's best known and most popular mining men, passed away Tuesday morning at 10:30 o'clock in Kansas City, MO., where he had gone a few days before to attend the funeral of a relative. Appendicitis, with which he was suddenly attacked complicated by peritonitis, was the cause of his death. News of his demise was a great shock to his many Ishpeming friends. Captain Tregembo was fifty-seven years of age, and had lived in Ishpeming for a long period of years. A mining man by profession, he was identified with the Pittsburg & Lake Angeline interests here for many years, and succeeded his father, Capt. William Tregembo. .. Captain at the Lake Angeline (Mine? .. missing text) practically retired from (missing text) .. when the property passed to the hands of the Cleveland Cliffs company several years ago and a few months ago he removed to Eveleth, Minn. Captain Tregembo was prominent in a business way and also politically. At the election last fall he was one of several candidates for the office of mine inspector and made a fine run, losing out, however, to the present incumbent, John T. Quine. Captain Tregembo was a man of fine presence and many sterling qualities. He had a great number of friends in this city and county, who sincerely regret his passing. The deceased was an active member of the various Masonic bodies in this county, and also belonged to the Sons of St. George and Forester societies. His remains are expected to arrive here today. --------------------- Overbrook Citizen, pg. 1; April 12, 1917 Note: many errors; my corrections in ( ) OBADIAH TREGEMBO
Obidiah Tregamba (Obadiah Tregembo), who came here from Ishpemming, Mich., to attend the funeral of James Tregamba (Tregemba), died at the home of his cousin Mrs. Ella Tregamba (Tregemba) Tuesday forenoon of appendicitis. Mr. Tregamba (Tregembo) was taken sick on the road here and made stops both at Kansas City and Topeka because of his illness. After his arrival here he seemed to be in good health until a shot time before his death. He is very high in Masonic circles and the Royal Arch have charge of the remains now. Up to this time we have no knowledge of where or when the funeral service will be held. --------------------- "Our Ancestors" by Gertrude Uren Sherry: Obadiah was in Carbondale to attend the funeral of his first cousin, James Tregembo, at whose home he died that same day. (noted from Lulu Tregembo McIntire though Avis Blakeman). Three weeks later, Thomas Tregembo, brother of James, died.
