Notes
a. Note:   Son of Amon and Armedia Harris Allen. ---------------- Obituary, Stafford Courier John Allen of Stafford is mourned this day by those who knew him as husband, father, relative, friend or neighbor. He was born just north of Stafford and he resided on the home place through all the year of his life. He was born June 6, 1890, and passed to his eternal reward Saturday, June 1, at 11:58 p.m. just a few days before his 67th birthday. Monday noon, a week ago, he suffered a heart attack. Even though he rallied for a number of days God saw fit to close the earthly chapter of his life at this time. Mr. Allen married Anna Marie Witt, June 20, 1916. Together they shared the blessings of a rich family life. Eight children were born to them with two dying in early childhood. Those who mourn their father's passing with their mother are Laverne Fink, Wichita; Edgar, Stafford' Adele Kail, Tribune, Irene Calvird and Valeta Roe of Stafford; and Elsie Pound, St. John. Two brothers also have outlived their brother; they are Elmer and Arthur, both of Stafford. The sons and daughter-in-law and 11 grandchildren also join the group of those who sorrow at Mr. Allen's passing. Mr. Allen was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church. He was baptized June 1, 1934. His quiet disposition and earnest sense of duty endeared him to the many who knew him. He was gifted in prudence and industry and offers this heritage to those who knew him best. He loved the outdoor life and offered to others something of that appreciation of God's vast resources. The Allen family enjoyed a very closely knit family life. Each served to inspire the other. The father's passing is felt yet life for those who remain goes on so that the good of those who have left us will remain after them to be incorporated in life yet to be. Perhaps the 19th Psalm as a fitting commentary of Mr. Allen's life. "The heavens declare the glory of God' and the firmament showeth his handiwork." Then he brings the words to himself and closes with the prayer, "Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in thy sight, O Lord, my strength and my redeemer." The family had the joy of standing vigil at the bedside during the last days of his life. This experience too, served to teach God's plan for us all. The many who showed their love to them are commended and will find a reward that is eternal and blessed of God. "What ye have done, ye have done unto me."
