Mrs. Guppy, whose husband pre-deceased her about six months ago, had attained her sixty-fourth year, and had been ailing from heart troubles for some time, to which she eventually succumbed. She only took seriusly ill on Saturday 27th ultimo, when Dr. Inskip Read was called in consultation with Dr. R. Seheult and Dr. Arthur Reid afterwards, but despite their combined skill and the assiduaous attention of devoted relatives, she passed the Great Beyond fortified with the last consolations of the Church, which were administered by Rev. Father Dominic Muckian. Mrs. Guppy, who was a daughter of the late Leonard Rostant, came from a good old French stock, and was related to almost all the old French families in the colony. Of an amiable and kindly disposition, she enjoyed the esteem of a large circle of friends, by whom her death is now mourned. She leaves behind to mourn her loss, eight children - Mr. P. Lechmere Guppy (Assistant Inspector of Schools); Mr. Percy Lechmere Guppy (mining engineer in the United States), Mr. Gareth Lechmere Guppy (of the Colonial Secretary's Office), Mrs. Alex Fraser; Mrs. Patrick Jones (England), Mr. Florian Lechmere Guppy (Magistrate, Indian Civil Service), Mr. John Lechmere Guppy Engineer Trinidad Leaseholds, Limited), nd Mrs Alfred Low. Lee (England). To those and her other relatives, we beg to offer our deep sympathy. The deceased, it may be mentioned, was passionately fond of growing flowers, whose destruction she could never forbear, and one of her principal requests was that no wreaths should be sent on the occassion of her burial.
