Note: THE LATE MR. PHILIP ROSTANT: Died 14th June (85) He was the youngest son of Mr. Toussaint Rostant who was a native of Lyons. Deceased was born in Port of Spain August 10th, 1818. He attended College in Ireland and completed his education at the Jesuit's College, Paris. He was editor of the Port of Spain Gazette and later, The Public Opinion which he eventually owned. He was also owner of the Reform newspaper. Funeral took place on June 15th from the house of his daughter, Mrs. Johnson (Note: Emma). Churched at St. Patrick's, Newtown. Note: DEATH OF MR. ROSTANT (Note: Died on June 14th) The death is announced of Mr. Philip Rostant, at the age of 85 years, which took place at the Ariapita Asylum, where he had been admitted a short time ago. The body was removed to the residence of his daughter, Mrs. Johnson, at New Town Post Office; whence the funeral takes place today at 9 o'clock to the Church of St. Patric. -- PORT OF SPAIN GAZETTE - 1904, 15th June THE LATE MR. Interred at Lapeyrouse Cemetery. -- CREOLE BITTERS - 1904, 17th June OBITUARY: Mr. Philip Rostant This veteran journalist passed away on Tuesday morning (14th) at the ripe old age of 85 and the funeral took place on Wednesday (15th) at 9 AM from the home of his daughter, Mrs. Johnson, No. 31 Picton Street and was largely and respectably attended. He was the pioneer of cheap newspapers here and to him belongs the credit of having run the first cent daily in the West Indies. He was one of the chief movers in the reform movement of 1887, but of late years, age and ill health had told upon him and he had laid aside "that mighty instrument of little men". -- THE PIONEER: - 1904, 18th June DEATH: On June 14th., Philip Rostant, aged 85 years.
