Notes
a. Note:   An Ellen CAREY with 3 children from County Kerry, Ireland, was listed as an indigent in Saint John, NB, Canada in 1842. The indication was that her husband had deserted her and the 3 children. This could be Ellen CAREY (nee, GORE) and her three daughters. Further research is required to confirm this association, however. (Source: FTM CD-257, Irish Immigrants to North America, 1803-1871; Irish Emigration to New England, 1841-1849; The Immigrant Poor of the City of Saint John, 1842.)
A "widow" Carey is listed, along with 8 children, on an 1846 transportation manifest "For the passage of...indigent emigrants from Port Hope [Ontario] to the Township of Peterboro 35 miles", on 2 July. Is this Ellen Gore Carey? (Source: Dept. of Finance: Emigration Service Fund, Vol. 2532, File 26, Page 1188, 23 Sep 1846. National Archives of Canada, RG19, Vol. 2532.)
Daughter Catherine, first appeared in Trenton, Hastings County, Ontario, Canada in 1854 at her marriage to John FINN at St. Peter's. This is the first known appearance of any of the CAREY sisters in Canada. Two of Catherines sisters are first noted in St. Peter's membership list in 1858, where they are shown as sisters of Catherine living with the FINN family. It is possible they were living there in 1854 as well.
