Notes
a. Note:   (see "best sites" Scotland/McKim stuff blogs for actual links: (Michael McKim Morrison) My McKim's have only been in America for three generations. My middle name is McKim (which has caused many interesting questions when people hear it). My great grandfather John McKim (m. Hellen Phillips Lamb in 1889) was a Photographic Artist in Rothesay,Isle of Bute, Scotland in it's heyday, the Victorian era. I have many photos of family that he took. His studio was at 7 Argyle (now a Veterinarian Surgery) His father and grandfather, also John McKims, were Wine and Spirit Merchants in Rothesay from the mid 19th Century and Paisley before that. I lose them before that generation (spelled McKimm in some records). My great grandfather also had brothers William Jamieson, Robert Jamieson, Robert S., James Barr, and sisters Ellen G. Jane and Jesna. I have no information on any of them, except that one of them or there son became a Doctor. Their name is misspelled "McNim" in the 1881 Census. If anyone has information, I'd be obliged.
(In a reply): Linda, The Robert Jamieson McKim I'm related to was born in Paisley (right next to Glasgow) in 1865. His father was John McKim and his mother was Jane Jamieson. Siblings born from 1869 to 1873 were born in Tradeston, Lanarkshire (also near Glasgow) and the family moved to Rothesay sometime thereafter as they are there in the 1881 census (as McNim! Enumerator or transcriber error). Looking at the dates you mention, the scenario could exist. If the original Robert J. in your family is the same, he would have been 62 when his son moved to the US. Try that data and see if it fits with what you have. Most birth registrations are readily available from what used to be called Scots Origins. Are you familiar with the Scottish naming tradition? Certainly trades and professions followed down through families often. ·
  · It's tough to find the McKims in Scotland. Seems like most left Scotland early on and it's a small sept of the Frasier clan anyway! I am indirectly related to a William Jamieson McKim born in 1864 in Paisley (near Glasgow) Scotland. His father was John McKim (b. 1834 Paisley) and his grandfather was John McKimm (spelled that way in the birth record), no data on his birth or family (my stone wall as they say). Bear in mind the Scottish naming traditions and perhaps there is a connection. Perhaps that can point you in a direction of search at least. My McKims (My gr'mo.) was a family in Rothesay, Bute, with 5 girls and no boys which didn't help pass the name along at all! Good Luck,
  Michael McKim Morrison ·
