Notes
a. Note:   Hi Cousins, I just wanted to pass along some Macklin information to all of you. This is about James Macklin baptized 9 January 1841 in Monaghan, son of Patrick Macklin and Bridget Thornton aka McSkean aka McScain aka Miscane. He is the brother of Emily Macklin Nolan, Catherine Macklin Mulligan, and Mary Macklin Ball Smith. I don't know at this point if any other Macklin siblings were in NYC or the U.S. and don't know yet where they arrived here - in NYC or in the U.S. or in Canada and migrated to the city. I find James on the 1870 census with a wife Mary and sons Thomas 4, James 2 and John 0 living at 404 East 17th Street. In 1880, he is still at the same address with wife Mary and children Thomas 14, James 12, Mary 7, Edward 5 and Francis 3. The son John mentioned in 1870 is not listed and has possibly died, but no record has been found so far. This surname has very many different spellings. This is a good project for Salt Lake City in December. There might be some "Macklin" cousins out there! When I received the death certificate, I called Calvary Cemetery and to my surprise was given, over the phone, all the information for those buried with James. It seems he purchased the grave to bury his son Francis in 1913. I found the death record for Francis and it gives his mother's name as Mary Davenport. No marriage or birth records found for James and Mary yet. A death record has been found for Mary Maklin - 6 Oct. 1883, buried in Calvary Cemetery. A call to the cemetery about the location of her grave, gave the information that the grave was purchased by James in 1865, which might have been at the time of the death of a child. There are a total of 7 burials there. I'm ordering the listing from Calvary to figure out who died, when they died, etc. More to investigate in SLC! Buried in the grave with James is Catherine Macklin who died in 1915, his second wife. I found a death record for her so I'll put that on the SLC list. He is on the 1900, 1910, and 1915 censuses with Kate, with an estimated marriage date of 1884. Take care, Cathy
