  Roche Harbor, WA, October 1987 Arthur L. Mortensen, 78, of Roche Harbor, and formerly of Boise and Parma Idaho, died Saturday, October 17, 1987, in a Bellingham (Wash) hospital. Memorial services will be held at 2 pm Saturday, November 7, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Parma, ID. Mr. Mortensen was born November 22, 1909, at Kilgore, Idaho. He was a jockey during his youth, and listed as leading rider of the United States in 1925. During World War II, he was a flight instructor for the Armed Forces, training pilots in Idaho and Washington. Mr. Mortensen with his wife, Margaret, owned and operated drug stores in Nampa, Parma and Meridian and a Western Auto store in Parma. He was active in civic affairs, and a charter member of the Parma Lions Club. Mr. Mortensen developed the A-Bar-M Mobile Park in Parma, now owned by his son. He and his wife moved to San Juan Island, WA, from Boise in 1962. Survivors include his wife, Margaret of Roche Harbor; two sons, Bob of Boise and Perry of Bellingham and a daughter, Ann McClary of Denver; and six grandchildren.
  Parma. Idaho Newspaper Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 2 pm this Saturday, November 7, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Parma, for Arthur L. Mortensen, 78, of Roche Harbor, Washington, who died October 17 in a Bellingham, Washington, hospital. Interment will follow in Homedale-Marsing cemetery. He was born Nov. 22, 1909, at Kilgore, Idaho. The family moved to Homedale in 1921. In 1923, he became a jockey, riding for several years at all the well-known race tracks throughout the United States. He was listed as a leading rider of the United States in 1915. He returned to Homedale for a time. He married Margaret Briggeman of Homedale on June 25, 1941 in Nampa. During his years as an aviator he flew the U.S. Mail from Boise to Nampa. During World War II, he was a flight instructor for the U.S. Armed Forces, training pilots in Idaho and Washington. the Mortensens owned and operated drug stores in Nampa, Parma and Meridian and a Western Auto Store in Parma. He developed the A-Bar-M Mobile Park in Parma, now owned by his son. The couple moved to San Juan Island, Washington, from Boise, in 1962. Survivors include his wife, Margaret of Roche Harbor, WA; two sons, Bob of Boise and Perry of Bellingham, WA; a daughter, Ann McClary of Denver, CO; six grandchildren; two sisters, Florence Stimmel of Homedale and Nellie Jones of Boise; numerous nieces and nephews, also numberous cousins in the Homedale area. He was preceded in death by his parents, Martha and Lewis Mortensen; three brothers, Emory, Glenn and Robert; a sister, Christy Adams of Burley.
