Before moving in with daughter, Walter and third wife Velma Flowers lived at 2016 Gulf Hill, Baytown, Texas. Walter and Almeda also had a son named Arthur Lee who was born Oct. 20, 1929. Arthur was raised by William Harvey Bryant and wife Mamie Marie. Arthur's name was changed to William Harvey Bryant, Jr. According to birth records, Arthur (Billy) was never legally adopted by the Bryants even tho he used their name. Walter's (PaPa) grandson Walter Owen Engleman said his grandfather had quite a temper. He remembers one time that PaPa bit a man's ear off in a fight. He, also, said PaPa had shot at least one man and maybe two. During the summer Walter & his siblings would stay with PaPa. They said he would get up around midnight or a little after, and wake everyone up to eat. Velma would have to get up and cook. Velma had to shave PaPa and wash him when he took a bath. Velma was the housekeeper for PaPa and his second wife, Margaret Almeda. PaPa was a real character. They didn't have air-conditoners so in the summer he slept in an enclosed porch that had a concrete floor. He would put the water hose on the bed with him and let the water run to cool him off. Many times we visited in a wet room. OBIT OF WALTER M. (KID) HILL, Houston Post, 10-18-1969, Sec. 2, pg. 11 Walter M. (Kid) Hill, Sr., 81, of Baytown died Friday.
