B. R. PILCHER
In the passing of Ben. R. Pilcher Dothan lost a time honored citizen of striking character who filled a niche in Dothan's political and municipal life that was of value. Coming to Dothan in 1883 dates him as a pioneer and through the years that followed he has been actively associated with the building of Dothan. He was always a man of strong convictions with the courage to back them utterly regardless of consequences. He was unafraid to represent a minority faction if he thought that faction right.. He was a prominent figure in Dothan's politics for forty years, and during most of that time he was connected with the city and the management of its affairs in some way or other. He was also interested in state politics and fought vigorously for his convictions. In the language of the world he knew how to stand the gaff, and he was a good loser. In reserving for himself the right to think and act according to the dictates of his own conscience, he accorded to every man that same right. He never let a man's differing with him politically interfere with his friendship, nor did controversies tend to ruffle his temper. In his passing Dothan has lost a useful citizen, and one who loved his town. He will be missed. Our deepest sympathy goes to his family in their time of sorrow.
