Note: Thomas Adams, Sr. was born in 1782 near the Tar River in Pitt County, North Carolina. Thomas Adams moved to Georgia (probably Burke County) about 1796 with his parents and the Cason family. They were among the earliest residents of Tattnall County after it was created in 1801. By 1807 the Adams family had moved to Laurens County and lived in the part cut into Pulaski County (now Bleckley County). Dennis Adams the brother of Thomas, served in Captain Tooke's Company in the War of 1812 from Pulaski County, Georgia. About 1802 Thomas married Catherine Parramore, who was born about 1785, in North Carolina. Her father was John Parramore who was a member of the prominent Parramore family of southwest Georgia and north Florida. From Pulaski County Thomas moved to Irwin County and then moved to Thomas County soon after it's creation in 1825. He was one of the earliest settlers there. In 1827, he was in Irwin County, but soon returned to Thomas County where he lived for the remainder of his life. Thomas and Catherine were the parents of seven children, all married in Thomas County Georgia. The Adams family lived near Ochlochnee where Thomas had a large plantation and was a slave holder. For his time, he was considered a very wealthy man. At his death, he owned 46 slaves. He died November 24, 1858. Rev. Benjamin Manning preached the funeral sermon at the Parramore's Church. Catherine Parramore Adams died June 19, 1855. They are buried in the old Adams Plantation Cemetery in Thomas County. Most of the Adams family were members of the Methodist Church. The son, Fabian was a Justice of the Inferior Court, 1837-1841 and was a member of the State Legislature in 1842. He moved to Jasper County, Texas about 1848 as did Abel, Susan, Monroe and Ballard. Thomas Adams, Jr. remained in Thomas County. Lucinda Adams Everett lived in Decatur County, Georgia. Harmon Adams moved to Madison County, Florida, hence to Henry County, Alabama and died in present Houston County near Cottonwood. He is buried in the old Jones Church Cemetery. Ballard Adams moved to Texas where he served in the Confederate Army in the 27th Texas Calvalry in Company F. He was captured by the invading Union Army and died of disease in the notorious Camp Chase Prison in Columbus, Ohio. From Pioneers of Wiregrass Georgia, Vol. 11. Contributed by: Michael K.
