Notes
a. Note:   Baptism record for Kirby Underdale shows that William Wilkinson Kirby was the son of William and Hannah Kirby, Farmer of Hanging Grimston. 1841 census shows William age 20 living with father William 70 and mother Hannah 50 with siblings Ann 18, Elizabeth 17 and John 7. 1851 Census records William Kirby age 30 with wife Margaret age 29 with children Emily, Thomas and William. Brother John (age 17) was still living at farm. There were 7 servants including 2 house servants, 1 nurse and 4 agricultural labourers. 1861 Census records all the family (Henry had just been born) and six servants. The farm was 420 acres which must have been most of Hanging Grimston. 1871 census show William Wilkinson Kirby age 52, farmer of 450 acres employing 4 men and 2 boys. Wife Margaret age 50 (of Bishop Wilton) and children Emily, Thomas, William, Ann, John, Louisa and Henry all living with them. (Alfred presumably then in trade at 21 years). All were unmarried (Emily, the eldest was 24 and Henry the youngest was only 10. Family apparently went from Hanging Grimston to North Grimston between 1771 census and at least a reasonable time before his death in 1880 when he was buried at North Grimston with gravestone using North Grimston as his address. The Stud Farm at North Grimston was, and still is, a horse breeding farm. The 1881 census shows that his wife was holding 150 acres. Tombstone at North Grimston: William Wilkinson KIRBY Died: 31 May 1880 aged 61 years - "with wife Margaret and daughter Louisa;. 2003 - Can not find a BMD listing for his death.
