Note: Daniel R. Hubbard (b. 13 Nov 1839, d. 18 Feb 1911) Daniel R. Hubbard (son of Rodney Hubbard and Sally Robinson) was born 13 Nov 1839 in New London, N.H., and died 18 Feb 1911 in Warren, N.H.119. He married Matilda A. Staples on 3 May 1863 in Meredith, N.H. Notes for Daniel R. Hubbard: Daniel was born in New London, N.H. on Nov. 13, 1839. He was still there in the 1850 census when he was listed as living with his parents there. By 1860 he was living with his parents in Hopkinton, N.H., in which town his father's parents had lived in for decades. In 1862, he enlisted in the Union Army from Warner, N.H. He was most likely living there at that time. He was discharged disabled in 1864 at Alexandria, Virginia. The History of New London, N.H. says this of Daniel: "Daniel R. Hubbard, born 1840; enlisted from Warner in Second N.H.V., Aug. 9, 1862; discharged disabled, Feb. 9, 1864, at Alexandria, Va.; married and resided at Laconia". The year of birth is wrong and he did not live at Laconia. He lived at Center Harbor and Meredith from at least 1863 to 1897. From a member's file on familysearch.com we find that Daniel married on May 3, 1863 in Meredith, N.H. to Matilda Staples. That information cannot be proven as yet. These types of files cannot be proven. However, I have sent for records from Meredith and the New Hampshire State office of Vital Records and there is no record of this marriage at any time. I also sent away to the Meredith Public Library to see if they had newspaper records for that time period. They replied that they do not, nor does the State Library have newspapers that go back that far. After marrying in 1863 and finishing his service in the Civil War, Daniel worked as a farmer and /or farm laborer. He was living in Center Harbor, N.H. with his family by 1868 and probably for sometime before that. His second child is listed as born there in 1868. Here the family lived for some years, at least until 1883. They wound up living in Meredith, N.H. as early as 1890, but may not have moved, as part of Center Harbor was absorbed by Meredith at some point. Daniel continued to live at Meredith through at least 1897 when his wife died there. In 1900 he was living with his son Elmer in Farmington Town, N.H. on School Street, along with a woman named Luetta E. Warren, aged 38, who was no relation. By 1910 he was living with his daughter Mabel in Warren Township, N.H. From this town he died on 18 Feb. 1911 from Bright's Disease. He was buried in Meredith, N.H. with his wife. A Daniel R. Hubbard and Matilda A. Staples family bible was seen in an antique store in Texas, with the following information: Daniel R. Hubbard, born Nov. 13, 1839, died Feb. 18, 1911 Matilda A. Staples, born May 11, 1842, died May 9, 1897 Clara Alice Hubbard, born March 24, 1865, died Nov. 1, 1909 Laura Ella Hubbard, born July 10, 186(7)?, died Dec. 27, 1902 Charles Robert Hubbard, born March 9, 1869 Rodney Nelson Hubbard, born Nov. 26, 1870 Henry Wilson Hubbard, born Sept. 1, 1872, died Jan. 13, 1923 Manley Ross Hubbard, born May 13, 1874, died Sept. 16, 1931 Arthur Daniel Hubbard, born March 7, 1876, died April 3, 1895 Mabel Maudest Hubbard, born Apr. 24, 1881 Elmer Albert Hubbard, born April 6, 1883 From these nine children, very few natural grandchildren were born. It is known for sure that Henry, Manley, Arthur, Mabel and Elmer had no natural children, at least none that survived infancy. It is most likely that Charles and Henry had none either. I have not been able to find out if Laura had any. Clara is known to have given birth to an illegitimate son in 1880, Harry Smith. later knwon as Denny. It is not known if she later had legitimate children. Manley adopted a son with his wife, in 1897, and named the child Harold Burnett Hubbard. Who Harold's real parents were is not known. Thus, other than the illegitimate birth through Clara, only Rodney is known to have legitimate natural children and extended the line of Daniel and Matilda Hubbard. Center Harbor, N.H. was established in 1797. More About Daniel R. Hubbard: 1890 Veteran's Census: 1890, Meredith, N.H.. Burial: Feb 1911, Meredith, N.H..
