  On February 18, 1862, Joshua mustered in as a Private in Company H, 7th Vermont infantry. He transferred to Company L of the 1st United States Artillery in November, 1862, and served with them until mustering out on November 19 1865. He became a member of the Grand Army of the Republic Post in South Londonderry.
  The 1890 United States Census of Union Soldiers and Widows shows Joshua living in Plymouth, Vermont. The Census notes that while in service, he was injured on his right side and chest, and suffered loss of hearing.
  A death notice was published in The Vermont Phoenix (Brattleboro, Vermont) on February 2, 1917.

  Obit: Death of Joshua E. Wilder January 25, 1917 Rutland Herald, Peru News JOSHUA ELIHU WILDER died at his home in the south part of the town Wednesday morning after a long illness. He had lived in town for many years. He was a veteran of the Civil war and a member of the G.A.R. post in South Derry. He leaves one son FRED WILDER of this town, one brother and one granddaughter.
  The funeral was held in the church Friday afternoon with the pastor of the church, Rev. S. H. Hall, officiating. Burial was in the village cemetery beside his wife, who died several years ago."

  Joshua Elihu Wilder died at his home in the south part of the town on Wednesday morning after along painful illness. He has lived in town many years and was much respected by his neighbors and friends. He was a veteran of the Civil war and a member of the GAR post in South Derry. He leaves one son, Fred Wilder of this town, one brother, and one grand-daughter. His wife died several years ago. His funeral was held on Friday afternoon in the church and was attended by the pastor of the church, Rev. S.H. Hall. Burial was in the village cemetery beside his wife.
